The protection of your privacy, including your personal data, is of greatest importance to us at the Office of Science and Technology Austria – Washington, DC. We therefore fully comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 of the European Union.
- Purpose of the processing Operation
OSTA uses your contact data solely for the purpose of administration and to provide service to you. Your subscription data for Bridges is used to keep you informed about news and events in science, technology, and education policy. Your subscription data for the Research and Innovation Network Austria (RINA) allows OSTA to interact with you as Austrian Scientist and Innovator, e.g. in order to inform you about events hosted by the OSTA and/or partner institutions, to provide information on professional opportunities, and to update you on research funding options. To prevent fraudulent use, OSTA reserves the right to deny network registration or to remove faux profiles. All data management practices prior to the implementation of the GDPR have been valid and in accordance with the law.
- Data Processed
The data processed for the purposes elaborated in point 2 are the following:
- Personal data provided by potential RINA members on a voluntary basis via the "Join" tab on the OSTA website;
- Personal data such as contact details (e.g.: name, title, email, phone number, cell phone number etc.) provided in email correspondence or business cards;
- Photo Galleries of OSTA events;
- Videos of OSTA events;
- Feature article;
Information collected from users of this site will be stored on servers in the US, and will be used only to the extent necessary for the purposes indicated and described to you.

The Controller determining the purpose and the means of the processing operation is the Office of Science and Technology Austria - OSTA – Washington, DC.
- Recipients of the Data
The OSTA addresses a wide variety of audiences, and stakeholders, however, no personal data is provided neither to private persons or institutions, nor to governmental institutions, without your explicit consent. OSTA will disclose private data to governmental institutions only where required by law.
- Provision, Access, and Rectification of the Data
You have the right to access your personal data and the right to correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal data, as well as to request the removal of your personal data, which will be implemented within one month after your request will have been deemed legitimate. Where requests are complex or numerous, the OSTA will extend this deadline to three months.

The legal basis of the processing operation at stake is General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 of the European Union.
- Time Limit for Storing Data
Your personal data are preserved as long as needed to serve the purpose for which they have been gathered (see the list of use cases in “2. Purpose of the processing Operation”), until such time as the data subject indicates she/he wants her data to be removed. In addition, should the purpose change for which the OSTA has collected data, re-authorization forms will be sent to all individuals affected.
