International Life Science Business Plan Competition: "Best of Biotech - Get Your Business Started" Begins in February 2010

If so, join BOB ("Best of Biotech - get your business started"), the international life science business plan competition, organized in 2010 for the fifth time by Austria Wirtschaftsservice, the federal Austrian bank for economic development and promotion. Assisted by the BOB team, translate your life science idea into a sound business concept and a professional business plan. Since the first competition in 2000, more than 40 companies have been founded and more than €170,000 in prize money has been awarded.

Why participate?

·    Develop your innovation into a business idea and a professional business plan.

·    Benefit from professional training and feedback from experts during workshops, coaching sessions, and a jury meeting.

·    Students, post-graduates, experienced scientists, and other creative individuals who wish to translate their promising and marketable life science innovations into a business idea and a professional business plan.

·    Life sciences include the following areas:

o    Red biotechnology (Biopharmaceuticals for humans or animals)
o    Green or blue biotechnology (Agro-biotechnology or marine biotechnology)
o    White biotechnology (Biotechnology applied to industrial processes)
o    Medical Technology/Medical Devices
o    Supply and service applications in the life sciences (e.g., new sequencing methods, bioinformatics)

·    BOB is open to individuals and teams from all countries. If you participate in phase 2 of the competition, be prepared to travel to Vienna in October 2010 to personally present your business plan to the jury. Although not obligatory, attendance at the workshops, the coaching session, and the award ceremonies/networking events is strongly encouraged.

·    Companies that have already been formed may participate, as long as they are not more than 1-year old at the submission deadline of the respective phase.


BOB 2010 - the life sciences business plan competition - takes place between February and October 2010. The competition is divided into 2 stages: In phase 1 (February-April 2010) the 3 most innovative business ideas are selected, and in phase 2 (May-October 2010) the 3 best business plans and the best medical technology business plan are recognized, based on a pre-selection of the 10 best business plans. Participants can take part in both phases or only in phase 1 or phase 2.
