In July, Greg Rickford was appointed Minister of State for Science and Technology, and Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario.
Rickford was first elected to the House of Commons in 2008 and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of State (Official Languages) in August 2010. His further appointments include: Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in January 2011, and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency and for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario in May 2011.
Rickford's appointment was announced by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper via his twitter account:
Prior to entering Canadian politics, the bilingual French- and English-speaking Rickford worked as a nurse, a healthcare consultant, and a lawyer, and had earned degrees in civil and common law from McGill University as well as an MBA from Laval University in Québec City.
