Wolfgang Winkelmayer is an Associate Professor of Medicine (with tenure) and Associate Professor of Health Research and Policy (by courtesy) at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is also the Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Nephrology and a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, serving on the Public Policy Board. He is also a Past President of ASciNA (Austrian Scientists and Scholars in North America) and Founding Member of the ASciNA Chapter of Greater Boston.
Having received training in General Internal Medicine and Nephrology, his scientific contributions have highlighted the need for timely nephrologist consultation in patients with chronic kidney disease. He is also interested in comparative effectiveness studies of interventions in patients with kidney disease including those on dialysis or with a kidney transplant. He enjoys a number of editorial activities: he is a Corresponding Editor for JAMA, The Journal of the American Medical Association, a Co-Editor of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, and an associate editor for several other leading journals.
Winkelmayer holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Vienna, a Master's degree in Public Health (Health Care Management) and a Doctor of Science degree (Health Policy and Management) from the Harvard School of Public Health.
