Carol A. Bessel is the Team Lead for the Chemical Catalysis within the Chemistry Division of the National Science Foundation (NSF). She has also served as Program Manager in the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences and Biosciences Division of Basic Energy Sciences at the U.S. Department of Energy overseeing the Fuels from Sunlight Energy Innovation Hub as well as a portion of the Energy Frontier Research Centers portfolio.
Prior to her position at NSF, she completed a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Naval Research Laboratory and was a Professor of Chemistry at Villanova University. She was awarded a Mary Ingraham Bunting Fellowship from the Radcliffe Institute of Advanced Studies at Harvard University in 1999-2000 and conducted research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while on sabbatical leave from Villanova University.
Bessel received both her B.S. and Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
